Works update: Nambour park 'n' ride

The Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade project will increase capacity, improve reliability and reduce travel times for customer and freight services in the growing Sunshine Coast region. Early works will expand the park 'n' ride facilities at Landsborough and Nambour and realign a 1km section of Steve Irwin Way.

Construction activities

Construction of the park 'n' ride facility at Nambour will take place between late January 2023 and mid-2023, weather and construction conditions permitting.

This new park 'n' ride facility will provide around 50 additional parking spaces on the eastern side of Nambour station, at the corner of Mill Street and Civic Way.

The new park 'n' ride will provide alternative parking for commuters. The new facility will include 6 motorcycle parking spaces. An additional 2 accessible parking spaces will be added to the existing park 'n' ride on the western side.

Mill Street and Civic Way will have reduced speeds and minor traffic disruptions during construction. The department will seek to minimise the amount of time residents and the local community will be impacted by works.

Working hours

The majority of the work will be undertaken during the day. However due to the nature of the works and their proximity to live traffic, some activities may need to be undertaken at night when the traffic volumes are lower, for the safety of motorists and workers.

Day works, ongoing

  • Between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.

What to expect

  • Traffic control: Local traffic changes will be in place including reduced speed limits and minor traffic disruptions. Traffic controllers will be present, as required, to assist and direct road users.
  • Priority access: Priority access through the work zone will be given to emergency vehicles, wherever safe to do so.
  • Pedestrian diversions: The pedestrian path between the station and Mill Street may incur temporary short-term impacts during construction works. Traffic controllers will be present, as required, to assist and direct pedestrians.
  • Increased construction traffic: Residents can expect increased construction traffic travelling near the work zones.
  • Audible noise and dust: Audible noise and possible dust from construction activities can be expected. Reversing beepers and flashing lights are a safety requirement and will be used at all times during work hours.
  • Access: Access to businesses, residential properties and the station precinct will be maintained but may be altered and/or disrupted.

We know these works are inconvenient and thank the local community in advance for their patience and understanding.
