Safety around schools

Main Roads is committed to road safety around schools.

The safety of children and school buses, and provision for safe crossings and drop-off zones are taken into account when roads are designed and upgraded.

Queensland has varying speed limits in school zones, usually between the hours of 7:30am and 9:30am, and 2pm and 4pm. The speed limits are:

Queensland Transport offers advice on travelling to and from school, whether it's walking, cycling or as a passenger in a bus or car. Their website gives advice and information on school crossings, speed zones around schools, travel subsidies for families and road safety for students.
