To assist the growing freight task the Department of Main Roads offers services to operators wishing to use innovative and more productive vehicles than are generally permitted on the road network.
Balancing the needs of industry against the impacts of heavy vehicles on the road network and the community, the Heavy Vehicle Management Branch in cooperation with Queensland Transport, provides various access and permit schemes to operators wishing to use these vehicles.
Working with other agencies, local government and industry, Main Roads focuses on developing effective and practical policies that provide safe and freight efficient outcomes for Queensland's heavy vehicle road users. In particular, Main Roads works closely with Queensland Transport and national agencies, such as the National Transport Commission on important issues aimed at ensuring industry is well placed to meet the challenges of the road freight sector in a growing economy.
