Motorway Breakdown Response Service
If your vehicle is stopped on a motorway in the Brisbane metropolitan area, the vehicle must be removed for your safety, ensuring the flow of traffic and the safety of other motorists.
Main Roads will organise assistance for your vehicle to be quickly removed from the motorway free of charge to a predetermined safe drop-off point.
RACQ members can ask the Motorway Breakdown Response Service driver to arrange an RACQ Road Service Patrol or tow truck to help you from the drop-off location.
Who can use the service?
This service is available for all vehicles under 2.5 tonnes, such as family and commercial vehicles. Vehicles involved in traffic accidents or heavy vehicles that cannot be removed by a standard tow truck are excluded from this service.
When and where the service is available?
In peak periods, vehicles in a breakdown priority quick clearance zone will be cleared within 30 minutes. Priority breakdown quick clearance zones include the Pacific Motorway, Gateway Motorway, Bruce Highway, Deagon Deviation, Houghton Highway, Western Freeway and Centenary Highway.
The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on all state-controlled motorways in the Brisbane metropolitan area.
How to use the service
If your car has broken down, use the roadside help phones or call the Brisbane Traffic Report Line on 13 19 40 for free assistance to move you and your vehicle to a designated safe location.
If your vehicle only needs fuel or water to get going
If it is safe to do so and your vehicle needs fuel, RACQ (or contractor) can supply five litres of fuel at a set price. The contractor can also supply free water.
This service is provided by Main Roads through the contractor RACQ for the Brisbane community, in an effort to make Brisbane's major arterials safer and keep traffic flowing.
