Major road projects
There are a number of major road upgrade projects underway, or in the pipeline, to ease traffic congestion around the airport precinct, these include:
Progressively from 2009-11 Gateway upgrade project

The duplication of the Gateway Bridge and an upgrade to 12 km of the Gateway Motorway between Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Road to the Gateway Bridge. The project also includes the new 7 km Gateway Deviation between the Gateway Bridge, through old airport land to Nudgee Road – providing a new access route to the airport precinct from the Gateway Motorway. 2009 Northern Access Road project

July 2009 free-flow tolling project

Free-flow tolling will be introduced on the Gateway and Logan motorways in July 2009. This will see cash toll booths replaced by a no stopping tolling system aimed at easing congestion and improving travel times, safety and communication for motorists. 2012 Airport roundabout fly-over

An upgraded interchange will replace the existing roundabout. The flyover will allow those travelling along the East-West Arterial to bypass the upgraded interchange below. For further information visit Airport Link or freecall 1800 990 038.
2012 Airport Link and East-West Arterial upgrade

Australia’s largest road tunnel will link the airport and the inner city. The toll road will provide high-speed underground travel allowing commuters to bypass up to 18 sets of traffic lights between the airport and Bowen Hills. For more information visit Airport Link or freecall 1800 990 038.
