Wacol to Darra: traffic management

Main Roads is using a range of methods to minimise traffic impacts and promote safe and efficient traffic flow during this upgrade. The following changes are in place throughout construction:

  • Main Roads is keeping traffic flowing on two lanes in each direction on the Ipswich Motorway and Centenary Highway Monday to Sunday between the hours of 5 am and 8 pm.
  • The general speed limit through the construction site has been temporarily lowered to 80 km/h and 60 km/h for safety reasons.
  • Outside these times, the motorway will frequently be reduced to one lane in each direction so construction can continue. This may result in minor delays and restrictions for wide load vehicles and or loads over 4 m.
  • Speed may be reduced to 40 km/h to enable essential works requiring traffic lane closures during night operations to minimise disruption.

For safety reasons the speed limit through the construction site has been temporarily lowered in specific areas to 80 km/h and 60 km/h.

Excess dimension transport

During the day, the width between safety barriers will be maintained at 8.0 m at all times, while the widths at off ramps will be 5.5 m. In some circumstances these dimensions may be reduced. Information will be available on the website.

At night widths may be reduced to 4.0 m to enable essential works to be completed. Transporters must seek approval to travel through the Ipswich Motorway by lodging an application with the Western Corridor Team.

Application forms are to be e-mailed to apps.wcorridor@mainroads.qld.gov.au or faxed to (07) 3137 8922 during business hours of 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday excluding public holidays.

Please download and complete the Western Corridor excess dimension transport application form (PDF, 720 KB). Applications should be submitted before 10 am to ensure assessment within 4 business days.

For more information on the application procedure, please refer to the Excess dimension transport application flyer (PDF, 1.37 MB).
