Nerang South Interchange (Exit 73)South Coast

This upgraded interchange, opened on 21 August 2009, is the first of the current works upgrading the motorway between Coomera and Varsity Lakes to be completed.

Nerang South interchange is a major interchange at the junction of Nielsens Road, Alexander Drive, Hinkler Drive and the M1. $420 million of state and federal funding has been made available to upgrade four interchanges between Nerang and Varsity Lakes, widen the motorway from 4 to 6 lanes between Nerang and Worongary and make improvements at Coomera interchange.

Nerang to WorongarySouth Coast

This project involves the widening of the Pacific Motorway between Nerang South (Exit 73) and Worongary (Exit 77) from four lanes to six lanes. This is one of the busiest sections of the motorway on the Gold Coast, carrying about 100,000 vehicles per day.

New England Highway HighfieldsDarling Downs

Stage 1: four-laning a section of the New England Highway between Highfields Road and Borghardt Road, to provide traffic signals at these intersections.

Stage 2: construction of the next stage to complete the four-laning through Highfields from Cawdor Road to Highfields Road and from Borghardt Road to Reis Road.

New England Highway: Hampton to GehamDarling Downs

The department is currently marking out the new centre line and the area in the road reserve that will need to be cleared to allow the safety and improvement works to proceed.

New England Highway: Jellicoe StreetDarling Downs

This upgrade will provide additional lanes, including left and right-dedicated turns, with upgraded traffic signals and the realignment of Ruthven Street to improve the curve, as well as the installation of central medians.

New England Highway: Spring Street to Nelson StreetDarling Downs

This 1.46 km section of the highway is being upgraded to provide two 3.5 metre wide traffic lanes and 1.5 metre bicycle lanes, northbound and southbound.
