Heavy vehicle rest areas
Heavy vehicle rest areas are important for alleviating driver fatigue which is a major safety issue on Australian roads. The Department of Transport and Main Roads is committed to ensuring that heavy vehicle drivers arrive at their destination safely. This commitment is demonstrated through the delivery of new heavy vehicle rest areas and improving facilities at existing heavy vehicle rest areas across the state.
Forward program
To support heavy vehicle drivers, the department has committed more than $47 million program to provide more than 50 new or upgraded heavy vehicle rest areas and stopping places throughout the state between now and 2013/14.
