Skid Resistance Management Plan

Managing skid resistance is an essential part of the Department’s responsibilities for traffic safety, and is one of the eight priority elements of the ongoing Road System Manager project. The SRMP supports the State-wide Planning process for skid resistance which is being refined through 2006.

The SRMP describes actions necessary to implement the strategy, establishes initial measurement regimes for skid resistance and surface texture at the network and project levels, and contains an improved set of investigatory levels for skid resistance, as well as four corporate key performance indicators for reviewing progress against the overall objective. In addition, the SRMP sets out the methodology for deciding priorities for improving skid resistance, and identifies 30 aspects of research and development (with a timetable for implementation) which will support implementation of the central strategy and enhance the Department’s ability to improve road safety.

Note that the SRMP is a working document and will be updated from time to time as progress is made against the plan or as priorities, resources, roles and responsibilities change within Main Roads.
