Wills Developmental Road (Gregory to Burketown)

Overview:

This project brought the total length of sealed road to 52 km.

Location:

Gregory Downs to Burketown link.

Benefits:

To improve access for the remote communities of Burketown and Doomadgee, particularly during the wet season.

Funding:

$6 million.

Project info

Work commenced in May 2008 on a $6 million project to seal a 12 km section between Barkly Creek and Brookdale, south of Burketown. This is the second in a series of projects to progressively seal the Gregory Downs to Burketown link.

Key milestones

  • In 2007, a 9 km section was sealed between Running and Barkly Creeks, south of Burketown.
  • Work on the second sealing project commenced in May 2008 and involves sealing a 12 km section between Barkly Creek and Brookdale.

This project is due for completion in late October 2008, weather permitting.
