Project info
This project involves the signalisation of the Farrellys Lane/Schmidtkes Road and Bruce Highway intersection as well as the duplication of the highway between Farrellys Lane and Boundary Road. The length of the project is approximately 1.4 km.
Main Roads is also constructing works on behalf of Mackay Regional Council on Farrellys Lane. These works involve the duplication of approximately 580 m of Farrellys Lane including two intersections. The Diesel Drive intersection will be signalised and the Caterpillar Drive intersection will remain unsignalised.
The Farrellys Lane/Bruce Highway intersection currently services the major industrial area of Paget to the east via Farrellys Lane and an expanding residential area of Ooralea to the west via Schmidtkes Road. Paget is a strategically important area as it provides good access to the expanding mining area via the Peak Downs Highway.
This project will provide improved access to both of these expanding areas and increase the safety of this section of the Bruce Highway. Drainage improvement has also been included in these upgrading works.
Farrellys Lane is the first of three planned projects to upgrade the southern approaches to Mackay. The other two projects involve upgrading the Peak Downs Highway (City Gates) and Boundary Road intersections with the Bruce Highway; and the duplication of the Bruce Highway from Farrellys Lane to Temples Lane, incorporating an upgrade to the Stockroute Road intersection and signalisation of the Temples Lane intersection. These further works will be programmed in the coming years as funding becomes
