Replace the existing 60 m low-level bridge with a new high-level bridge, 180 m in length.

Gilbert River, 103 km north of Normanton on the Burke Developmental Road.

To improve safety and access to Cape York communities, to the Gulf centres of Karumba and Normanton and further south to Cloncurry and Mount Isa.

- Work commenced in September 2007.
- Majority of construction on the new bridge complete before the commencement of wet season December 2007.
- Work recommenced in May 2008, following the wet season.
