Flood damage restoration program

Overview:

Flood damage restoration works on sections of the road network that were damaged as a result of monsoonal flooding from either cyclones Ellie or Charlotte in early 2009. Covers five Main Roads regions, north and west of Mackay.

Location:

Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) projects will be undertaken on state-controlled roads within the five regional areas of Mackay/Whitsunday, Central West, North West, Northern and Far North, with the majority in the North Queensland regions.

Completion:

The department is undertaking multiple NDRRA projects across the road network which commenced in August 2009. Weather and construction conditions will determine completion dates.

NDRRA projects will restore the road sections involved to their previous level of service to ensure the safety and efficiency of the road network is maintained.

Funding:

Flood damage repair works are jointly funded by the Australian and State Governments under NDRRA. Flood damage repairs are estimated to cost over $350 million.
Project info
Restoration works are necessary on both sealed and gravel roadways. The restoration works will include: formation repairs, re-gravelling of gravel surfaces, road pavement replacement, stabilisation and bitumen re-surfacing.
