- Construction commenced in mid May 2008 on an $8.8 million project to reconstruct and widen a 12 km section of the highway, 25 km east of Hughenden in the Jardine Valley area. This project will widen the existing narrow section of highway to 8.5 m with 9 m sealed floodways and is scheduled for completion December 2008.
- Construction also commenced in mid May 2008 on a project to widen a 9.5 km section of the highway 20 km west of Julia Creek. Work is progressing well on this project and is due to be complete in December 2008.
In 2006, 46 km of widening work was completed between Torrens Creek and Prairie, near Hughenden, eliminating one of the longest remaining sections of narrow seal.
A project to widen a 10 km section of the highway 50 km west of Julia Creek was completed in September 2007.
