Project info
Main Roads completed a $28 million upgrade of the Burke Developmental Road between Cloncurry and north of the Burke and Wills Junction in June 2008, delivering the project ahead of schedule and under budget. The project involved widening 140 km of remaining single-lane sealed bitumen sections between Cloncurry and north of the Burke and Wills Junction, to provide an 8 metre, two-lane road with sealed shoulders.
With the Burke Developmental Road widened south of the Burke and Wills Junction, the focus is now on eliminating narrow sections north of the Burke and Wills Junction.
Work commenced in September 2008 on a project to widen a 6 km section 260 km north of Cloncurry at Donors Hill. The project will widen the existing road to 8 m and is scheduled for completion late 2008, weather permitting.
