High five for Roma: five-intersection upgrade now complete

About the intersection upgrade

Roma’s five-intersection upgrade project is now complete. Five intersections have been upgraded on key freight and traffic routes along the Warrego and Carnarvon Highways.

Included in the scope of the $1 million Australian and Queensland Government funded project was the installation of Roma’s first set of traffic lights at the intersection of Quintin and McDowall streets, and the conversion of a four way intersection into a T-intersection at Quintin and Bowen streets.

Other upgrade highlights included:

  • improvements at Mayne and Quintin streets
  • improvement of traffic sight lines and road markings at the intersections of Wyndham and Bowen streets, and Charles and Bowen streets.

A roundabout at the intersection of McDowall and Queen streets will be completed in coming weeks. This work is being done by the Maranoa Regional Council.

The Minister for Main Roads, Mr Craig Wallace, thanked road users for their patience at the newly upgraded intersections and asked them to obey new traffic signage now that works are complete.

Benefits of the upgrade

The much needed improvements:

  • enhance safety
  • address traffic efficiency for both local and highway traffic
  • better manage heavy vehicle traffic through Roma.
