Brisbane's Northern Busway reduces travel time for commuters
The new Northern Busway (Royal Children’s Hospital to Windsor) is now operational. The first bus pulled into the platform at 5.14 am on 3 August 2009 to collect the passengers at the new Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital station. The busway means less travel time and improved access to the busy hospital precinct.
People from across Brisbane came along to the opening to see it first-hand and celebrate the busway's completion at a public open day on Sunday 26 July. Thousands of people took advantage of a great winter’s day to walk along the newly completed busway at Herston. Roving entertainers kept the crowd amused as they wandered through the new three-level busway station.
Minister for Transport Rachel Nolan declared the busway officially open — two months ahead of schedule — unveiling a commemorative plaque to mark the special occasion.
