Student media and information enquiries
Main Roads is custodian of Queensland's biggest public asset, the state-controlled road network. The department connects Queensland by managing roads as part of an integrated transport system.
The state-controlled road network incorporates 33,500 km of roads and more than 6,500 bridges and major culvert structures. The state-controlled road network carries the bulk of the state’s traffic.
The remainder of Queensland’s roads are managed by local governments across the state.
Media enquiries
As with most large organisations, Main Roads manages media enquires through a Media Unit. The Media Unit responds to enquiries about the state-controlled road network and the department’s road construction program across Queensland. The current program is worth in excess of $16 billion over the next five years.
If you have a media enquiry, you can contact the Media Unit by:
Other sources of information
The department’s website contains a variety of information to assist students. This includes detailed information on road projects, including bridges, restorations and upgrades and updates. If you need to undertake initial research, then the following information is available:
- media statements
- project information and newsletters
- fact sheets
- corporate publications, including Roads Connecting Queenslanders, annual reports, strategic plans and the current Roads Implementation Program.
Students are encouraged to check for information about their topic using the information sources above, before contacting the Media Unit.
Please note that Queensland Transport is the Queensland Government department responsible for enquiries about road safety, licensing, registration, and maritime concerns.
How to place a student media enquiry
You can submit a media enquiry using the following steps:
- submit your request to the Media Unit in writing
- email your specific questions to media@mainroads.qld.gov.au at least five working days before your deadline
- provide your name, contact email, telephone number, and university/school being attended
- advise whether the request is for publication or an assignment.
The Media Unit welcomes your enquiries. Due to the volume of media enquiries from media organisations and others, it is not always possible to have face-to-face and phone interviews.
