History

  • The need for this corridor was identified as far back as the 1960s, in the landmark Wilbur Smith and Associates Brisbane Transportation Study.
  • In the late 1970s, in response to land development pressures, Main Roads planned and preserved this corridor based on its current standards for a four-lane median-divided road.

Current status

Centenary Highway to Moggill Road (also known as Kenmore Bypass)

On 30 November 2005 the Honourable Minister for Transport and Main Roads Paul Lucas MP announced that Main Roads would undertake a desktop planning study into the feasibility of a Kenmore Bypass.

This study was conducted in 2006–07 and examined previous planning work, and updated it with current knowledge to identify the scope of works required to provide the bypass, including impacts, benefits and an indicative cost. Preliminary investigations were completed in 2007.

Main Roads is now progressing planning for the bypass in consultation with the community. For further information, please visit the Kenmore Bypass Planning Study 2008 page.

Moggill Road to Warrego Highway

There are no current plans for any projects on this section of the corridor. The Kenmore Bypass Planning Study 2008 does not include evaluation of this section of the corridor.

As this corridor was identified and protected many years ago, it would need to be re-evaluated to determine if it has any role in the future transport network. This evaluation will be undertaken as part of the Western Brisbane Transport Network Investigation, an investigation to determine the long-term transport needs in the west and north-west areas of Brisbane. For further information, please visit the Western Brisbane Transport Network Investigation site.

Property acquisitions

The state government owns some of the property that could be affected by the corridor. This property was purchased under hardship acquisition provisions following requests from property owners.

You can find out more about property acquisitions on the Main Roads' property page, or by emailing www.propertyservices@mainroads.qld.gov.au, or calling 1800 806 414 (free call within Australia).
