- Corridor preservation based on planning standards for a six lane median divided road
- Construction of the existing Gateway Motorway was completed in 1986
Current status
The second duplication project is expected to not only support transport requirements of passenger and freight systems, but also create up to 6000 jobs for the region's economy during construction.
Upgrading of the Wynnum Road Interchange and the section from Wynnum Road to Lytton Road commenced in early 2007 and is expected to be completed by late 2007. This will allow for construction to begin on the Mt Gravatt–Capalaba to Wynnum Road section of the motorway to be completed by early 2010.
The construction of the section of the motorway from Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Road to Nudgee Road and the duplication of the Gateway Bridge is expected to be completed by 2015. The construction of additional lanes from Mt Gravatt-Capalaba to Nudgee Road is expected to extend from 2009–15.
Community consultation commenced in 2004 and continues to support good outcomes for the project. An important aspect was the Environmental Impact Assessment completed in early 2005.
